Bark or bite?

Bark or bite?

Bark or bite?

This picture is based on an old Celtic design that was in a book which was lying around in our dearly departed studio. This was one of several designs that I was thinking of getting it done as a tattoo so I thought I’d see how it looked before I’d commit ink to skin. As i’m a fickle beast I have since changed my mind and will, in fact, be going for a photorealistic teal duck. Probably. Maybe this one will get a look in next time…

It’s a single level stencil with acrylic, spraypaint and glitter (which doesn’t really come across in the picture). It is A3 in size and signed on the back.

Mail Order Bride

Mail Order Bride

Mail Order Bride

I just love working on maps. They provide inspiration and a good background in one package. I don’t think this map will be guiding anyone very far again now that she’s art. I’m thinking the best she can hope for is to guide people to the living room…

Now, From Russia With Love is, of course, the title of a 1963 James Bond movie starring Sean Connery but here I’m referring to the phenomenon of mail order brides – of which the countries of the former Soviet Union provide such a bevy of such available ladies (so the internet tells me!) Hence the use of a map of the region.

Anwyay, this is a map of the good ol’ USSR and this is represented by the hammer and sickle tattooed across our bride-to-be’s heart to show her proletariat upbringing. Currently she has made her way west and is now betrotherd to a man in Birmingham, Alabama.

She has been constructed using acrylic paint, charcoal, paint pens and glitter. All this on a map! She’s 48 cm x 60 cm in size and signed on reverse.

Embiggen

Maps. You’ve got to love them. They can come in very useful. Although I doubt this map will be guiding anyone anywhere again. Destiny has something entirely different in store for this particular map. She’s become art.

Embiggen is intended to sound like a real word but in fact is completely fabricated. Embiggen, coined by Dan Greaney, has seen use in several scientific publications since its creation in an episode of the Simpsons.

This gentleman is trying to embiggen his arms somewhat so he can be like Stretch Armstrong. But alas i don’t think he’ll achieve it. For one he’s just a normal human called Geoff from Dorking (as the map suggests) and second he’s mucho crazy in the brain (in fact that probably helps when trying to grow your arms out – thinking outside the box and all that malarky). At least he’s happy!

It is made using acrylic charcoal and paint pen on a map. Its 47 cm x 87 cm in size and signed on reverse.

Maps have proved very useful over the years. Although I doubt this map will be guiding anyone anywhere again. Destiny has something entirely different in store for this particular map. She’s become art.

Now check out this little boy, he might look like he’s trouble but like Pepe le pew all he wants to do is kiss you and keep kissing you with his Gaelic skills. He’ll keep doing this until you are totally under his spell and don’t even have a care in the world anymore. This is what happens if you let the French use the language of love…

The picture has been created using acrylic, ink, watercolour, spraypaint and charcoal. It is 48 x 60cm in size and has been signed on reverse.

It’s all Greek to me

It's all Greek to me

It’s all Greek to me

Maps. You’ve got to love them. They can come in very useful. Although I doubt this map will be guiding anyone anywhere again. Destiny has something entirely different in store for this particular map. She’s become art.

I have to say i’m partial to an idiom or two as the name suggests and this one just fell in to my lap. There i was looking through all the maps we have and a map of Greece comes up. As i was staring at it i knew there was a piece in it but i just couldn’t quite hit the nail on the head (check that out another idiom). After a serious amount of scratching my head a germ of an idea slowly started to grow in the empty space which is meant to be filled with my brain. Now after consulting google translate and doing a bit of frantic work, hey presto, Job done!

If you can’t read Greek it says ‘It’s all greek to me! which as you guessed it is an idiom. ooooooh aren’t i a clever boy now?

It is made using acrylic and glitter. Its 48 cm x 60 cm in size and signed on reverse

Liliana

Liliana

We were asked if we could produce something that was to be a gift for a baby. As it’s notoriously tricky getting any sense from a baby we had rely on the basic information that we had access to.

Ultimately I was trying to make something she’d be happy with as she was growing up and that her parents would like. The end result is a combination of digital print, stencil and screenprint.

It’s now been framed up and is (hopefully) adorning her bedroom wall. Only time will tell if she likes it when she’s older. At least her parents seemed to approve…

id-iom business card @ Seven

id-iom business card @ Seven

We’ve previously done a fair bit of work down at Seven in Brixton Market and as they were having their bathroom area painted up they saw it as an opportunity for the artists who’d worked on the place to leave a bit of information about themselves to entertain any interested punters.

It seemed like a perfect opportunity to try out my new id-iom business card stencil so that’s precisely what I did. I’m pretty happy with how it looks so we may well be using this a little more from here on in.

Pure White. 21 grams.

Pure White. 21 grams.

Pure White. 21 grams.

As i was a little bereft of ideas for what i could write regarding this piece I decided to put ‘pure white 21 grams’ into Google to see what would come up. I thought some cocaine reference would probably come up and was surprised that one of the top results was a site selling something called JWH-018. After a little research it would appear that JWH-018 is a very snappily named designer drug that mimics the effects of cannabis. This has been banned in the UK and various other countries but is still widely available on the internet.

Now whilst this hasn’t got much to do with our picture i just thought it was an interesting aside and just goes to show how enterprising chemists can be. I suppose though that the picture is actually in response to Duncan MacDougall who said that the soul weighed 21 grams.

Its a single level screen print with chalk, acrylic, glitter and spray paint hand finishing. It is A3 in size and signed on the back.

Just why?

Just why?

Just why?

This picture was actually hiding in a bag full of stencils so no wonder we haven’t seen it in a while. Only after making these pieces did I realise how much like 80’s movie poster’s they are. They remind me of ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’ or ‘Better Off Dead’ or some other long forgotten 80’s gem. I could probably write the plot summary to go with them but unfortunately I have better things to do today.

Oh, go on then: “Sometimes. Just sometimes, you feel like everyone else knows something you don’t. And when you find out what it is you realise how far down the grapevine you really are. Take Chet Barker, he’s a jobbing actor working in the seedier side of Hollywood who takes every underpaid and dermoralising job his ‘agent’ can find for him and he attacks them with the all the gusto of a farmboy fresh from the country. He’s about to realise what a dog eat dog world the Hollywood acting industry really is… Featuring Judge Reinhold as Chet, Eddy Murphy as his agent (and pimp-at-large) and with some truly remarkable cameos this is hilarious fun for all the family.”

Well i’d probably watch it at least. It couldn’t be any worse than Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow…

It’s a single level screen print with unique hand finishing using acrylic and spray paint. She’s A3 in size and signed on the back.
