Ready to earn your stripes?
Well. What can you say about this one? I’m glad to say that for once this wasn’t just a product of my overexcited mind but was actually a commission. The commissioner got it as a gift for her boyfriend. It doesn’t really have much subtlety but sometimes in the game of love that’s all that’s required. I hope it had the desired effect…
Cheers

My turn to burn
There I was minding my own business on the way to the pub during summer when I came across this amazing bit of wood. Don’t ask me how the burn marks came about because I’m not sure but I would be interested to know. I’d like to imagine it involved a steel drum being used as a barbecue – but that’s pure speculation on my behalf and probably just because I’m a bit peckish.
With such a surface to work on I just had to figure out what to paint and how to paint it – and that is where the trusty pound shop filler came in handy. Anyway, once a liberal coating of the stuff had been applied to cover up the burned areas I wanted to paint over then we were good to go. For once we managed to keep it quite understated and just have the girl and the burned strips.
She’s up for sale and I’d love for her to go to a new home so we can actually have a bit of space back for working in. Drop us a line if interested…
Cheers

What lies behind the mask? In this case quite a lot of hard work. It’s just not been framed correctly. Right, stick with me on this one, it’ll probably get a little confusing. The whole idea with this piece was that you would be able to see through the lenses that make up his pupils to see a little of what was illuminated behind. This would then lead you to want to open the front of the piece (like a book cover) to see into his mind.
From the outside he looks like an old homeless guy but flip it open and you’d reveal his somewhat confused inner thinking. He was meant to be some kind of time traveller who’d made plans to come back and prevent an explosion from happening in San Francisco. Unfortunately for him the time jump addled his brains a little and now people just think he’s a crazy old guy who claims he’s from the future and knows how to stop armageddon. I did warn you that it wasn’t going to make much sense didn’t I? Clear as mud yeah?
A little more will be revealed when I get the piece back and can do a little video or some comparison pics so you can see the inner bit rather than just a glow from his eyes. I took ages stencilling and screenprinting it so it certainly needs to be seen. Whether you’ll like it more or not at that point is entirely up to you…

I think a piece this epic probably deserves its own theme tune. It’s on a thoroughly fire ravaged door and even includes some working id-iom electrics so why not? It would be some kind of weird 70’s disco number that warns you of her incendiary qualities with the line ‘she’s too hot to handle’. I’m pretty sure I could come up with a concept for the show to go with it if I gave myself five minutes. Probably something involving a dangerous female spy who works on our side but whose motives for doing so are unknown. I’m getting a little overexcited now aren’t I? It’s already shaping up to be a good show though…
Now we just need to sell it as I can’t have it coming home again. If you’ve got a bit of space then she’ll look grand with her burned edges and light up heart. Drop us a line if you’re interested…

Lost in the ether
Yesterday, whilst attempting to paint on the wrong side of a window, I managed to do a bit of other work pretty much by accident. Which was lucky as everything else attempted yesterday was just not fit for purpose. It was during the last few dying minutes of daylight, probably about 4pm (how depressing) while I was waiting to take a photo of the abortive window painting that I decided to go outside for a breath of fresh air when I happened to glance at the one of the numerous doors along the yard when an idea popped straight into my pea-sized brain.
Knowing my vision could crumble at any second I ran inside to find some paint only to be left with some watery black paint and no paint brush in sight. ‘No worries’ I thought to myself, ‘I’m a resourceful womble’ and so proceeded to look outside for the exact kind of stick needed like a primate hunting for a primitive tool. Anyway, before the light had vanished, I’d already done what was needed and even managed to get a somewhat ethereal photo to boot.
