Frankly I think I’ve nailed today’s ‘No Context Required’ piece – the main aim of which is to present Phil Collins quotes in new and unusual ways in order to try and exorcise him from my thoughts. If you were a male child in the 80’s you could hardly have missed Sam Fox and her undoubted charms. I’ve collocated her coquettish pose with Phil’s quote equating songwriting to child rearing and how disappointing the end result can be. Given Sam’s own glittering music career – and who can forget her 1986 classic ‘touch me (I want your body) – I thought Phil’s quote was particularly fitting. So there you have it.
Once you’ve liberally sprinkled a few pilfered logos in and adorned it with a grey background with some hearts then you’re good to go with another successful ‘No context required’ piece. It’s laser engraved on wood then hand painted and stands proud at 39 x 26cm. Drop us a line if you’re interested…
Cheers

Who’d a thunk it? Before he donated it to a Texas museum back in 2014 Phil Collins had the largest collection of Alamo memorabilia in private hands including Davy Crockett’s fringed bullet pouch and Jim Bowie’s legendary knife. Apparently he’d been obsessed with the Battle of the Alamo since watching something about Davy Crockett on TV when he was a kid and then indulged himself once he’d made some moolah as an adult. Today’s out of context quote is Collins’ reply to reports belittling him for his supposed belief that he was at the Alamo in another life.
Anyway, I’ve juxtaposed his quote with a wide eyed young lady who looks a bit like a clown. Once you’ve liberally sprinkled a few pilfered logos in and adorned it with a green & yellow background then you’re good to go with another successful ‘No context required’ piece. It’s laser engraved on wood then hand painted and stands proud at 39 x 26cm. Drop us a line if you’re interested…

It’s funny what happens when you dive head first into the internet rabbit hole. There I was quietly reading a very important document on the completely-above-board verifiedfacts.org entiteld ‘The truth about Brad Pitt and MDMA’ when I came across this shocking sentence ‘Wall Street has all but confirmed that they have rigged the markets according to instructions from Facebook, which has been under secret leadership by Brad Pitt for over 2 years now.’ 2 years? More like 5 years! Get with the program verifiedfacts.org!
Anyway, to celebrate his 5 years of secret Facebook leadership – along with the fact that he created MDMA and now owns McDonald’s (which is actually just the retail arm of his MDMA organisation!) – here’s a picture of Brad Pitt ‘lovin’ it’ whilst wearing his MDMA goggles and lounging under an E/McDonald’s sign. Brad comes lasercut in wood and has then been lovingly hand painted and he’s conveniently ‘tablet’ sized at about 24 x16cm. Perhaps I need a snooze…

Give way to oncoming Motherfuckers
Once every blue moon we here at id-iom like to go for a few cheeky drinks with none other than Sir Asmund Quayle, reprobate extraordinaire and disillusioned messiah of everything. To say a little fun is had is quite the understatement, in fact it takes the months in between theses drinking bouts just to mentally prepare for the next and to fully allow your fun levels to rise to a healthy amount. I’ve seen people who just didn’t have enough in the tank turn in to empty husks as Sir Asmund drains them of all they have.
This piece is based on a slight altercation we had with some disillusioned youths who thought that our merriment was an invitation to start some trouble. Needless to say by the end of our disagreement this gang of fools was soon singing to our tune with one meaning ful phrase rolling about in their undeveloped minds – ‘Give way to oncoming Motherfuckers’
It was made using the magic paint pen and acrylic on found street sign which is 56cm x 96cm. Drop us a line if interested.
Cheers

I’ve got an idea and I think Netflix are going to be very interested…
Once upon a time there was a little boy called Mike. Mike was a scrawny little snot nosed punk of a kid but he was still just a little boy all the same. One day Mike was daydreaming of all the important things he’d do when he was grown up – architect, mathematician, wizard and estate agent – he’d dreamed them all when along came a dragon and promised to give Mike everything he ever wanted for one small favour. Mike was somewhat naive to the mechanics of dragon romance and didn’t understand some of the bigger words so readily agreed. In the international incident that followed it’s not entirely clear the exact sequence of events but Mike emerged somehow unscathed and slathered in dragon juice clutching a small totem of himself. Now, when he rubs his magic totem strange things happen.

id-iom vs The Mere Scribbler
There’s nothing id-iom likes more than a good pub so when we got the call from an imminently opening pub in Streatham called The Mere Scribbler and were asked to do a portrait in their beer garden of Frances Burney – after whom the pub is named – we jumped at the chance. Frances ‘Fanny’ Burney was a 18th century novelist, diarist and playwright who progressed her career in the area. Given the limited number of pictures of Fanny that are available we didn’t have all that much to work with other than a handful of severe looking portraits from the time. After a bit of toing and froing however we finally had an agreed design. There’s no detail in her hair as they are going to get some ivy on the wall which will, in time, hopefully become her hair so the plain yellow is a bit of a stopgap til then. If ever there’s a decent excuse needed to go to the pub then I guess that’s it…

I’ve used one of the most familiar faces on British TV to accompany today’s quote by Phil Collins to really bang home the out of context nature of his words. Just to warn you I’m going to use the word ‘juxtapose’ again. That’s twice in two days. There just isn’t another suitable word. Anyway, so I’m juxtaposing national treasure Holly Willoughby against Phil’s out of context quote which displays his surprised reaction at learning he’d peaked and was already on a downward spiral of popularity. Unlucky Phil. I’m assuming this quote was probably some time in the 90’s. You may have been down but you were never out Phil. It seems you’d already taken up residence in my thoughts. Hopefully my attempts to exorcise you by art will be successful.

Bonus fact: I’ve managed to hide a coded swear word/phrase in this picture. Win.

Another day, another Phil Collins inspired piece. Today’s out of context quote from Phil is him bemoaning his success and potential overexposure in his heyday in the 80’s and realising how it could lead to something of a backlash. I’ve juxtaposed his quote with a bodybuilder with a cat’s head. Mainly because I can but also because it removes the quote so far from context that it takes it to another dimension all together – which appeals to me hugely. Once you’ve liberally sprinkled a few pilfered logos in and given it a yellow and grey background then you’ve got another successful ‘No context required’ piece.

For the second of our ‘No Context Required’ designs here we have a quote from Vladimir Putin following an interesting bit of video where he kisses the stomach of a little boy whilst out and about in Russia somewhere. If you haven’t seen it then I suggest you put ‘Putin kiss boy’s stomach’ into Google and follow one of the links. To say it’s a bit weird is probably something of an understatement. Anyway this quote is what he had to say about the incident but once you combine it with the angry looking man bear you have another quality id-iom piece. It’s laser engraved on wood and stands proud at 39 x 26cm and even features an out of context Hello Kitty character and I’ve even robbed the Honest Burgers logo just to really mix it up.
