Something squiffy

Most of us have been some degree of drunk at one time or another. This gentleman, however, seems to have taken things to extremes. Just to make things clear I only met him the once. Thankfully.

When I clapped eyes on him outside the pub the other night he was moving like he was in a slow-motion video whilst everyone else around him was moving at what is considered a normal and acceptable speed.  It was quite disconcerting I do have to say. It somehow created a mist of cognitive dissonance that had people feeling like the pavement had started to roll like the waves of the ocean and they were all becoming seasick whilst merely sitting outside the pub. I have never seen such mass hysteria and all from some drunk fool who kept shouting that he had drunk ‘something squiffy’. Be warned.

On A4 paper made using ink, acrylic and watercolour. Drop us a line if interested.

The purchaser is in satisfaction

Now that is a pretty bold title if ever I’ve written one considering no one has even seen the artwork yet and so had no chance to purchase it. The title actually comes from some words in the legal text stuck to the picture they were the best set of words in all that legalise mumbo jumbo. The picture actually came about because i hated the previous piece i had painted underneath. I would show you but luckily i didn’t photo it before the urge to paint over it occurred. I suppose it will have to be left for those pesky art historians who in a hundred years or so might choose to x-ray it and only then will people be able to see what i didn’t want you to see. Oh well i will probably be dead by then and not even care anyway.

De sphaera mundi

Did you know that the Earth is not a perfect sphere but is, in fact, an oblate spheroid. Which is a sphere that is squashed slightly at its poles and swollen at the equator. Our globe, however, is not even a perfect oblate spheroid because mass is distributed unevenly within the planet. The greater a concentration of mass is, the stronger its gravitational pull which creates ‘bumps’ around the globe. Weird eh?

Today’s sphere however is just about perfect and comes complete with some fancy stripes. She’s on A2 paper and is made using the magic of stencils and spraypaint. Drop us a line if interested.

Too much too soon

When invited to a party full of models, musicians, actors and celebrities you should really have a game plan because if not things can get out of hand rather quickly. Nemo here got invited to a high class do which included the cream of London’s elite. No one was quite sure how he got an invite but somehow he had managed to get himself one of these elusive golden tickets. On entering the party at one of London’s most exclusive hotels he realised he was totally out of his depth. He could tell these people were just more urbane than he ever could be and thought maybe he should just leave and have this as a good enough story to tell people but before he could make up his mind a waiter passed him and offered him some champagne and then, as they say, all bets were off.

On A3 paper using acrylic, spray paint, tipex, glitter and paint pen. Drop us a line if interested.

Bouba or Kiki?

There is something called the bouba/kiki effect whereby people are shown two shapes – one is a sharp edged star-like shape and the other a more rounded blob – and they are then asked to assign the names ‘bouba’ or ‘kiki’ to the shapes. An incredible 95% of the participants selected the curvy shape as ‘bouba’ and the jagged one as ‘kiki’ which suggests that the human brain somehow attaches abstract meanings to the shapes and sounds in a consistent way. Which is just plain weird when you think about it. I’m not sure which name I’d attach to this shape as it’s a bit of both. Confusing.

This confusing shape has been sprayed on A2 paper then had some dashing blue stripes added. If you like it enough to want it then drop us a line…

The Font

If you’ve not heard of the tale of the Font of Knowledge then gather close and I’ll tell you a story. In 1972 a crack commando unit was dispatched to Leuven in Belgium to protect the fabled Font of Knowledge from some unknown impending threat. The font, which can allegedly produce an unlimited amount of crisp and cold Stella Artois, disappeared from right under their noses. There have been no confirmed sightings since. Legend has it that it was somehow smuggled to the UK and is now hidden deep in the English countryside. where it’s said to be guarded by two mechanical sentries called Tick and Tock. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe Tick and Tock will allow you to sup from the font and access the knowledge of the ages. Or maybe they’ll impale you on their tiny swords. Who knows?

My rendition of Tick and Tock is on a 80 x 30cm canvas and may be the best clue you have to find the font. Drop us a line if interested…
