Rust covered love, a love so old

I love art shops don’t get me wrong but a good craft shop can be a wonder of delight as well. Some might ask what is the difference? A lot of products overlap but in a craft store there are some things which you just don’t get anywhere else. For instance ‘Rust paint’, paint that when applied looks like rust without needing a massive skill set. This is exactly what I bought the last time and what a find it was.

Admittedly I’ve had the stuff for quite a while as I had no idea what to do with it but, as always, the Muse will strike at any time. And for this clout around the head I was gifted with the idea of a rust covered heart.

Perhaps it’s about everlasting love or maybe about someone who won’t open their heart and so it falls into disrepair. To tell you the truth I wasn’t really sure myself until the other half of id-iom walked by whilst I was painting and casually mentioned the tin man and his lost heart. And that was it. You just have to love it when a plan comes together…

On A2 made using the magic of inspiration, spray paint, acrylic, rust paint and just a little bit of sewing

Cheers

Captain Cadmium

Now i’m not really sure how you can be a captain of a pigment but then again I’m not entirely sure what’s going with the world nowadays, so I suppose I have to expect any and everything goes in this social media age.

In fact just looking through this guy’s social media feed it would seem he’s no captain at all but just someone who has a unhealthy fascination with cadmium in all forms. That said he seems to be more interested in the colours it can make instead of its use in mobile phone batteries.

He tried to get in to the game of mining cadmium but instead of trying the tried and tested techniques he decided that he would try and obtain as much as he could by smoking as much as he could. Now as we all know this is an incredibly dangerous idea but the captain is now the biggest and only dealer in cigarette obtained cadmium. I have to say i really don’t think this is a good business model at all but c’est la vie i suppose…

Word from your mother

Michael can’t really remember his mother as she left when he was young to become a trapeze artist for the travelling circus that had been visiting town. He can still remember her last words to him though which were ‘It will never be easy’ and he has taken those words and turned them in to a matra which he uses when things in his life are starting to go a little out of control. So now when things start to go wrong he calmly closes his eyes and repeats the mantra over and over again.

It’s not entirely clear how but it has apparently got him out of some pretty serious situations like when he was arrested for trying to swim the English Channel with only one flipper and a tin box full of aggressive fruit flies which just kept flying in to his eyes. Needless to say the Coast Guard was called as he had managed to cross into the shipping lanes which meant many boats were told to steer clear causing major havoc at ports throughout the EU. All in all that little escapade cost the British taxpayer something in the region of £4.7 million. And he never even got prosecuted.
Made using the magic of imagination, acrylic, paint pen, watercolour, pastel and gold leaf on A4 paper.

Cheers

We3

Michael, George and Elton are a trio of identical triplets who each possess a modicum of magical ability. On the day they were born their grandmother whispered in to each babes ear the magic words that have never been repeated. I’m pretty sure all they can do is make frogs, dogs, cats, bats, certain lizards legs and wooden pegs and of course water rain from the sky but definitely not money. In the social media age this has been good for them but not great. The term one trick ponies has been bandied about for sure. The three take it in their stride however. They now have a very successful wooden peg business and most of their days are spent as they please. Clouds and silver linings and all that.

Sphere of Influence

We haven’t seen one of the spheres out and about in a while. This one seems to have taken an intense interest in this young lady’s rainbow coloured hair and has been following her around for days now. Quite what it’s doing is entirely unknown.

Whilst most people may be a little concerned that a ominous orb has been shadowing their every move Emilia here doesn’t mind so much as it looks great as a mysterious background for her Instagram pictures. She’s been gaining followers at quite a rate but she has been having some rather odd thoughts of late…

She’s on a 40cm wide circular canvas board and was made using the magic of acrylic paint pouring, a touch of manual dexterity, some imagination, stencils and spray paint. She’s available to be rehomed so drop us a line if you’d like her to live with you…

All for the likes – a modern fairy tale

All for the likes – a brief modern fairy tale

Social media can definitely be a force for good but I think we’re all too aware it has a darker side too. Social media influencer Kylie here is so tied up in her impeccably curated Instagram profile and getting more likes for each and every picture that she posts that she decided to have a modified Facebook ‘love’ tattoo done in an attempt to hit the magical 500K followers where apparently those lucrative but elusive sponsorship deals start rolling in.

Sadly all she got was a notification from Instagram saying the post contravenes policy and her entire account had been suspended pending an investigation. It’s currently unclear if she lives happily ever after.
Kylie is on A2 and is made using the magic of spraypaint, stencils and imagination. Drop us a line if interested in giving her a new home…

The average colour of the universe

In 2001, Karl Glazebrook and Ivan Baldry determined that the average colour of the unirvers was a greenish white. It came to light just a year later that they corrected their own flawed analysis and reported that their survey of the light from over 200,000 galaxies averaged to a slightly beigeish white.

It turns out that wasn’t even the focus of their studies but I guess sometimes you learn what life throws your way. Now, quite what that means for us I’m not quite sure. It’s actually been called ‘cosmic latte’ which sounds better than beige. Saying that I had to work with ‘sahara beige’ as that was the closest colour match I could find. So there you have it.

Created on A2 paper using the magic of spraypaint, stencils and imagination. Drop us a line if you’d like to give this bad boy a new home…

Limbprecise

As a casual viewer of artworks on the internet in this information age I’m pretty sure you’re going to tell me that i’ve drawn this lady with too many arms. In fact you are ‘limbprecise’, to use a portmanteau I’ve just coined although I’m sure you can gleam the meaning. Less of the semantics and more of the story though.

Marigold lived for many years in a genuine mad scientist’s laboratory – which is where the extra limbs come from. The mad scientist had always admired Dr Otto Gunther Octavius (or Doctor Octopus as he’s more commonly known) from when he was read comics as a child and always thought that a set of extra arms would make life so much easier.

So why give the arms to Marigold I hear you ask? There’s a simple answer for this. He only ever managed to grow two sets of arms, one set grew to be big and strong but the other never really grew properly and stayed a bit scrawny. This just wouldn’t do as he wanted the biggest, baddest arms of any mad scientist. Anyway after a few years the two sets were all he could come up with, so he thought he might as well use them. He’s now trying to figure out what to with all the legs he’s grown and has lying around the lab. Maybe create a wall crawling human spider? No, that would never work…
