Demotivationally Mapped out

A while back one half of id-iom started using maps as the background for a number of demotivational posters, the other half of id-iom is still working on his maps but hasn’t quite managed to get them finished yet. It seems we’ll have to keep our ears to the ground for them.

Anyway a collector from America got in touch because he needed that certain demotivational message for himself and his family for when things just got a little too much. Originally from the UK he asked us to use maps of where they live now or were born which was easy enough for us. I just hope the whole family aren’t staring at them right now just lounging on a sofa thinking that today is a waste and they should just call it quits. At least until tomorrow that is…

Proper paper pusher

The longer you’re in this art game the more players you happen to meet. From other artists, to gallery owners, to marketing experts, to events organisers, to government officials, to journalists, to fans and even paper suppliers and today we’re talking about the last one.

Knowing someone in the paper game means that if we’re very good boys occasionally we get a very welcome present of off cuts and bits that can no longer be sold but absolutely perfect for a pair of art cowboys like ourselves. Yeehaw!!

That’s exactly what we received from our paper pusher, an amazing collection of high quality paper. In return they’ll definitely be getting some sort of reward as primo paper really is a big thing for the pair of us. Lastly, all that has to happen is our very own Lillian, feline head of procurement has to check all incoming goods and sign off, which after a quick inspection, she did. Now we just need to find the muse and get some new work knocked out…

The Legend

Just the other day we showed you our first commission wall in 18 months, well, when we were done they then requested we do a second wall in order to, sort of, explain the first. It consisted of a legend so that people could see the actual drug logos and names for the abstracted logos we used on the original wall. Now I haven’t done any precise stencil work for a while, instead preferring the ‘get it in the edit’ philosophy of painting, but for this we only had one shot and it needed to be as neat as possible. I have to admit we did pretty well if I don’t say so myself. After completing this one they then asked about a possible third wall. Watch this space…

The Golden Era of Eva

Eva had quite a different lockdown to the rest of us. Rather than just collect her furlough money and play Xbox for months she decided to better herself. Through some decidedly dodgy forums she found a place in Russia that would help you to improve your mental skills in 3 months or your money back. And we’re not talking Sudoku or crosswords here we’re talking telepathy, psionic abilities and telekinesis. 

Now she could move objects with her mind and bend others to her will and she was really quite looking forward to her upcoming chat with her boss about pay and a possible promotion… 

In reality Eva has been languishing in development hell for the last 3 years. She was started and never completed until recently the Muse gave me the nod to get this Eva finished. The application of some gold, some wavy black lines and some carefully placed splodges of black ink was all it took but I’ve found it’s better not to rush these things.

Making a difference

It’s been a long time coming but we were recently commissioned to do our first big wall in about 18 months for a company which invests in new drugs. I have to say that it felt good to be out and about and painting again for a client. 

We’ve spent too long left with our own ideas so it was nice to have a brief – which only really asked for one thing, which was to include some reference to the drugs they had invested in. Given that some of the logos were quite cool anyway that seemed the obvious way to go. As always the hardest part is coming up with a design but once that is out of the way and signed off though it’s on to the fun part; throwing some paint at a wall.

Abstract landscape IOM (diptych)

After a brief hiatus we’re back on the scene! Sometimes inspiration is hard to come by and sometimes it’s as easy as having a look out of the window. Today’s piece was definitely the latter. Especially as we currently have the verdant pastures of the beautiful Isle of Man to view. A brief glance out the window at the green plants and fields, blue sky and various flowers gave me my colour palette then it was just a job of locating a couple of  canvases and setting to work for an abstract landscape. Whether you’d recognise it as such is none of my business. 

They’re on 40x40cm canvases and are meant to be a diptych but I’m still unsure on the best way to orientate or position them so that’s up to you…

Love will tear us apart

Sometimes it’s difficult to know where inspiration comes from. Was I listening to Joy Division’s ‘Love will tear us apart’ when I came up with this design? Or did I come up with it independently as it seemed fitting for the design? I really couldn’t tell you. 

I can tell you however that the Joy Division version was released in June 1980. Apparently the lyrics were inspired by lead singer Ian Curtis’ marriage problems and frame of mind before his suicide in May 1980. Which is really quite sad all things considered. I’m not quite sure where I’m going with this so maybe best just to leave the rest to you. 

It is made using the magic of imagination, stencils and spray paint on 60 x 60 cm canvas
