Other People’s Graffiti – Corner shop cat piss edition

Here at id-iom it’s not all about us. Sometimes we like to showcase other aspiring artist’s work in our occasional series ‘Other People’s Graffiti’. Today we have a classic bit of graffiti found on the streets of London on one of id-ioms government mandated pandemic walks. Since first seeing it I’ve been trying to get into the mind of the artist. I mainly keep coming back to two simple questions 1) Why? And 2) What?

Is this not the goal of every artist? To get the viewer to ask questions.

Artist unknown. Completed in paint pen, London 2021.

Cheers

Neon flake mistake

When you do commissions you always hope for the best but plan for the worst and this was the outcome of one of the bad times. We’d found the perfect colour to use but we later found out this was the last colour we should have used. After we had finished and dropped the piece off to the client we got a message back saying some of the spray paint was coming off the wood. We thought they must be mad as spray paint magically seems to go on anything or so we thought. Little did we know that the neon colours we used were made using some different type of alchemy to be produced and resulted in the paint flaking off the wood we were painting. After we got the piece back and started the remedial work needed to get the piece back to looking its best I happened to take these shots. Pretty but i must not forget it came out of disaster

Look at me

Now it could be said that Carola here has what some call Narcissistic personality disorder or what others and my personal favourite, call megalomania. It’s not that she exhibits all of the symptoms but she certainly shows some and that’s enough for her.

  • A grandiose sense of self-importance – CHECK
  • Preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love – CHECK
  • Believing that they are “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people – CHECK
  • Requiring excessive admiration – CHECK
  • A sense of entitlement – CHECK
  • Being interpersonally exploitative (taking advantage of others to achieve their own ends) – CHECK
  • Lacking empathy: unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others – CHECK
  • Often being envious of others or believing that others are envious of them – CHECK
  • Showing arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes -CHECK

Ok well it seems i might have misspoke. It seems Carola here is a full on Megalomaniac and from what I know of her very happy with the fact. In fact whilst she was posing for me all she could do was point at herself and quietly but persistently tell me to keep looking at her. As you can imagine this is quite difficult when you’re trying to sketch someone.

It is A4 in size and made using the magic of imagination, watercolour, acrylic, paint pen and ink. If you think she’s good enough to hang on your wall then get in touch…,

Wrapped up and ready to go

So with nothing new to get on today, we thought we would share the packaging to some artwork we recently sent out to a client. We do like to jazz up our packaging because we’ve found it’s less likely to be damaged or stolen when we do it. That’s a pretty sad state of affairs but if it gets the job done then so be it. It also gives the client a nice little surprise when the postie eventually delivers it. Some clients have even been known to frame the packaging for an extra little something for their wall.

Sod it Rick! Not again!

It’s time to check up on an old piece and see how it’s getting on. The first time we saw black sphere 004 he was shiny and new and this is what we said:

Today’s sphere is out living life in the real world. It’s watched one too many episodes of Rick and Morty and has decided to go on an inter-dimensional trip of its own. It has chosen our world. Quite why it is examining a moss covered wall is anyone’s guess. What Black Sphere 004 will make of it would also be well beyond our range of reckoning. Perhaps it will declare war. Perhaps it will stop for a picnic. Only time will tell…

Now though we can see that time hasn’t been kind to black sphere 004. He obviously decided he liked what he saw and stayed a while, a little too long maybe. Maybe this is what happens to sphere’s when they decide to hang around on earth…

Cheers
