In Like Flint

With the addition of Maria de los Muertos on drums it would seem that the line up for my all-girl Prodigy tribute band, In Like Flint, is finally complete.

Along with Mandrogynous on vocals and Introverdent on keyboard I’ve now got a bona fide girl band with enough firepower to take on the mighty Red Hot Chilli Poppers. The world of tribute bands will never be the same once I get these girls on the road…

In the Land of Grey and Pink

Today’s sphere has been around for quite a while now. It’s been studying earth culture since it’s appearance shortly after the first nuclear tests in the 1940’s. It was diligently doing it’s job cataloguing and analysing whatever it would come across until one fateful day in the late 60’s when it ‘accidentally’ ingested some acid with English progressive rock band Caravan whilst they were recording their critically well received but commercially unsuccessful third album ‘In the Land of Grey and Pink’. Since then all it has studied are things that are grey and pink. It’s unsure exactly what he’s studying here but he’s clearly enjoying it.

He’s on A2 and has been made using the magic of spraypaint, stencils and imagination. Drop us a line if interested…

The Band in Hand

With some new soundproofing being constructed to go over the windows in the back room of our local boozer they needed us to add a touch of id-iom design magic so it would also function as a sign to let people know a band night was on and which way the entrance is (it’s an old pub so has 3 possible entrances – only one of which actually opens). A couple of design variations later and we were left with the bearded hipster style guy staring imperiously at you along with a couple of Band in Hand logo’s and the yellow and white arrows. It’s pretty clean and straight forward all things considered. I think I need to go and make a proper mess somewhere now…

The Band in Hand

The Band in Hand

As regular visitors to our local pub we were asked if we would do a painting for a charity night that they were holding for a bunch of childrens charities. As it was for those pesky kids we thought we’d better get involved. The pub is called ‘The Hand in Hand’ and the day in question was to be called ‘The Band in Hand’ – you can see what they’ve done there can’t you? – as there was to be a day of live music and general frivolity (including none other than the dog from the Go Compare ads. You can imagine the excitement was palpable.)

Anyway, as is usual for us, we left it to the last minute so whipped up a couple of designs and then decided on the tried and tested pretty girl routine. It was due to be auctioned on the night so we thought we’d make it as saleable as possible. As we were doing this on a huge bit of board we thought that most punters would probably be a bit put off by it’s size and so also did an A2 paper version (which we failed to get a photo of. D’oh!) Thankfully they both sold so at least we made a decent contribution to the day.

Cheers

The King Blues – Glastonbury 2011

The King Blues drum stick - Glastonbury 2011

There we were stood at Glastonbury earlier this year when the youngest member of our troupe announces that she is off to watch The King Blues and would anyone like to go with her. After a little conferring it was decided that it would probably too much effort for anyone to wrangle up the necessary energy to accompany her so it was suggested that perhaps she was old enough now to fly solo.

With barely a backward glance she was off and a further conference produced the conclusion that that would probably be the last time we’d see her for a good few hours. With a skill akin to GPS she unerringly tracked us down again an hour or two later only to regale us with tales of the good time she’d had and the great band we’d all missed. And to prove it she was clutching the drum stick that she’d managed to get after it was thrown to the baying crowd. As I had a backpack with me I took control of the drum stick and as this is the first time she will have seen it since then I thought it only fair to get it framed up to commemorate the occassion. Bring on Glasto 2013!

Cheers
