Gloria had finally done it. Through an arcane mix of magic and technology she had finally invoked Ctrl+Alt+Del in the real world.
Now, when she muttered the magic words Clippy the paperclip appeared and asked how he could help. She now had the ability to reset people who were vexing her. It was really quite something. One second they’d be chatting inanely away then they’d get a blank look in their eyes, sit like a mannequin for a few seconds then look embarrassed and shuffle off as they attempted to make sense of what just happened.
Gloria was really looking forward to Christmas this year…

For our next foray into lino we’ve decided to go big. Now I have to admit I’m not really one to cut stencils and usually leave that up to the other half of id-iom but recently whilst tidying up in the studio I found an unopened package. It turns out it was some A2 size bits of lino. This was perfect as we’d just done some small lino cuts a couple of weeks ago.
Unlike cutting stencils I have managed to smash this one out without a single complaint about my sore fingers. Saying all that it does take a while though and am not quite finished yet. How we go about making the actual print at that size is currently still a mystery. When it’s all done you’ll be the first to know…
As an artist who can let their imagination get the best of them, it’s no surprise that sometimes things can get out of hand…
Many months ago now, possibly even years ago, I was working on this painting when an errant idea popped into my head which managed to satisfy the Muse and derail my entire train of thought. Needless to say I needed to please the Muse which meant me putting this canvas aside to work on my shiny new idea.
There it lay until just recently whilst having a rummage around for an entirely unrelated item and it appears in my hands. For now, I’ve got no idea where I was heading with this piece so any suggestions would be welcome. Otherwise I’ll just have to wait until the Muse has finished with Margaret, aged 9 from Dumfries, who has some Christmas based art homework to finish for tomorrow…
We here at id-iom occasionally like to go into the lab to create some new and wonderful things. Last Christmas when we couldn’t go and see our family due to the coronavirus we decided that our present giving for 2021 should be stellar and how better to do that than create some one-off personalised wrapping paper.
Like two mad scientists from the 50’s we came up with ideas ranging from gold plated newspaper (the cheaper newspaper was to offset the price of the gold) to woven cat fur cloth with added glitter (not ideal due to allergies). Eventually we decided to screen print some blank newsprint with cats, guns and grenades on as we thought this was the perfect sentiment for Christmas – and for gift giving in general. Now we just need some gifts…
We painted a mural for prestigious London art handling company Paradigm 33 back in September last year and it’s taken this long to get a shot of it as there’s always a vehicle of one sort or another completely blocking it. Given the nature of their work we eventually settled on a design that featured some little installers who are installing the company logo. How very self-referential. But you know the art world.
We were also commissioned to create 50 laser cut decorations as a little Christmas gift to clients. We agreed not to reveal them til after Christmas and so are only just getting round to it now. HAP33 CHRISTMAS. They’re Paradigm 33. Geddit?
Here at id-iom there’s nothing we like more than the pressure of a deadline. Despite the fact that procrastination is our usual go-to strategy occasionally it’s warming to have a fire lit under you. So when an enquiry came in regarding some laser cut decorations that were required ‘tout suite’ for an event we decided it was time to action.
The event in question is, surprisingly, called Christmas Land and a total of 93 decorations of various sizes were required. Cue 80’s montage scene of us desperately designing, cutting and painting and then, by jingo, we get them all completed just in the nick of time. Memo to self for next time; glitter gets absolutely everywhere. Beware!
Dashing through the snow on a one horse open sleigh, laughing to ourselves, gentrification all the way!
Here at id-iom we revel in the fact that we, along with all other street artists, have seemingly become the harbingers of gentrification. So we may as well be gentlemanly about it…

You know Christmas is on the way when we get a call from events company Elsewhere as they need a little id-iom design pep to complete their party preparations. This year consisted mainly of design for print and laser cutting a load of bespoke Elsewhere Christmas decorations. The Party in a Pear Tree wallpaper design was used both as a wallpaper and as some giftwrap for the fake presents under the tree. It would seem id-iom is the complete design package after all…
Before we start let me just say you should remember that it wasn’t me that swore. It was you. Just remember that.
For today’s heartwarming Christmas decoration we’ve got a simple question ‘What did Mulitple Miggs say?’. Gather the kids round and everyone can shout out the answer together in a beautiful harmony in true Christmas spirit. The answer is, of course, taken from that quintessentially festive film, The Silence of the Lambs. If you don’t know then perhaps it’s best it stays that way.

With Christmas already begun by many of the bigger corporations we thought it about time we kick off our Christmas campaign with the first in our series of thoughtful and heartwarming decorations to adorn the id-iom Christmas tree.
‘Let’s not talk about politics’ is a somewhat blunt but still very thoughtful Christmas message. Family arguments have sprung up about less. Firmly aimed at one of my family (hi Mum!) we can only hope this comes to pass. But i doubt it.
