It’s not like there was anything good on anyway…

As part of ongoing sojourn into painting some weird stuff we’ve painted up 8 monitor screens that are to be used as part of a giant Christmas tree made up of screens. Apparently most of the screens will playing little video’s on a loop and we had to take care of the non functioning ones.  Hopefully some pictures of the big beast in action will be forthcoming. We were asked to make them a little ‘Christmassy’ so we did our best considering it was us doing them. Anyway, they are what they are and I just hope they went down well.

Dashing through the snow…

We get some odd requests from time to time so when we were asked to paint up a wooden cutout set consisting of Santa, some snowmen, a couple of reindeer, a Xmas tree and a sleigh we thought it sounded like fun. Painting outside in freezing conditions however is not the most fun. If you combine the two then this is the end result.

Sinister Santa looks like he’s been on the Red Stripe all morning and he cares not that he’s pulled up on some double yellow lines, the reindeer appear to have been vandalised, the sleigh pimped, the tree dipped in psychedelics and the snowmen look like the result of some abominable colour based genetic tampering. It must have been quite the night. Let’s just hope it’s his final blowout before his Xmas rush…

It’s all fun and games…

We haven’t posted for a while but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy – because we have. We were tasked with coming up with a nice Christmas design with a little id-iom twist. Which is sometimes tougher than it sounds. After a few schmaltzy design dead ends we finally hit on the ‘fun and games’ quote which seemed just perfect for a Christmas party. Once we’d thrown some green fade stripes and festive baubles on the design we were good to go.

The classy foldable board is about 2.5m square and is to be used as a dancefloor backdrop for an upcoming Christmas event. They’ve got some UV lights which will strobe on the board once it’s in situ so we included some UV reactive paint on the lettering and some little snowflakes which are otherwise invisible. Unfortunately we don’t have a blacklight in order to test how well it worked but I’m quietly confident. To finish we also drilled a few holes in the baubles so we could put some fairy lights through for that extra pizzazz. We couldn’t leave the boards out all day in order to get a twinkly night shot so you’ll just have to trust me that they look the business. That is all.

Mr Voodoo

Mr Voodoo does Mardi Gras!

With the temperatures hitting sub zero and the nights somehow still drawing in we decided the remedy was to brighten things up a bit and make our second Christmas wall at sportswear shop ‘Forty Five’ about as full colour as we could go. So we decided to hit the Mardi Gras theme and go for Mr. Voodoo in his Mardi Gras mask enjoying some bodyrocking sounds as the carnival gets into full swing. I’ve never been to Mardi Gras so am having a hard time imagining exactly what kind of tunes he’d be getting down to but they’re definitely party tunes and his mojo is surely rising…

The Christmas Skull

The Christmas Skull

The Christmas Skull

I think there should be a jolly festive song called ‘The Christmas skull’. I have done a cursory bit of internet research and it would appear that no errant songsmith has managed to come to my aid as of yet. We live in hope. This piece was actually drawn on Christmas morning last year whilst recovering from the shenanigans of the previous evening (which included losing a dog that wasn’t ours) and waiting for a lift up to my auntie’s for Christmas Day. The picture isn’t very pretty but then again neither was I at the time. I felt defeated but still in charge. Like a king whose lost a battle but is still around to try and make amends. I think a combination of hangover and sleep deprivation was probably just kicking in at that point though…

Time to up the id-iomedication

As the festive period creeps ever closer its time to up the medication in anticipation of an endless stream of saccharine sweet Christmas adverts on TV and tunes playing in every shop. Not only that but having to face the indignity of having to actually enter just about every shop hunting for predictably underwhelming presents. And, of course, the inevitable mince pies (OK I do actually like mince pies but i have an unusual addiction). With all this going on I need to keep myself medicated just to survive. The lights on the tree are enough to make me flashback to nights out I was hoping I had forgotten…

Now, however your troubles are over as you can now take some id-iom certified yuletide survival pills for all those tricky times. No need to wallow in your own misery at this time of year ever again. Just pop one of the pills into your mouth with a glass of water and – bingo –  you’re good to go! Just be careful not to take all three at once, I did once and it was a somewhat messy situation…

Dead bad shot

Dead bad shot

Dead bad shot

This picture was painted on the run up to Christmas where we are inundated with strange & nonsensical perfume and supermarket ad’s, there’s Christmas songs playing non-stop and I also heard some carol singers (I actually quite like carol singers and they are one of the things i enjoy about Christmas). It’s meant to be Spring time now and this post is still accompanied by freezing conditions and high winds. What other time of year could it possibly be? To throw our Springtime hat into the ring we bring you ‘Dead Bad Shot’. It features a lot of red. Like roses. And blood.

This one is definitely from left field and is probably some kind of portal into my tar black soul. I’m probably baring my innermost fears and don’t even know about it. I’m sure a psychiatrist could probably have more fun with this than the old Rorschach test. Anyway I have to go as there are other dark and creepy thoughts just begging to be let out of my head and set down on paper. Toodle pip for now!

It is A2 in size and is made using the magic of acrylic paint and ink. Signed on reverse.
