Heart of Ice

With the ‘Beast from the East’ in to visit the UK is experiencing a surprisingly cold spell which is apparently going to herald the end of Winter. I’ll believe that when I personally experience it. Now given the sub zero conditions I wouldn’t like to be out painting a wall but that doesn’t mean all bets are off graffiti-wise. You just have to be a bit more open minded. And quick. So when I spotted some crazed ice on a windscreen (I think it may have been cracked underneath) I realised it was time for some temporary vandalism so swiftly removed my hand from my glove and whacked in a heart with my nice warm digit. Job done. Ice graffiti complete. Bring on Spring.

Brixton crack squirrel

I’ve mentioned the squirrels around here before. They’ve even been in the newspapers – and here’s a little coverage from The Guardian to prove it! Anyway, believe me when I say they are bad. Real trouble.

It’s been a while since we’ve had an appearance from the Brixton crack squirrel though. I thought he was a goner but it turns out he’s just been sleeping in a lot and trying to kick the habit. Looks like he’s back to his old tricks again though and has pilfered a bag of rocks from somewhere…

Please help!

Please help!

Who can resist such a plaintive cry for assistance? And such a cute looking pigeon to boot. I certainly couldn’t resist and if I found Percy I would definitely be straight on to aburimar777@gmail.com to let him know exactly where his lost pet could be found.

We’ve delighted in a bit of ‘artistic scam baiting‘ before but are taking the use of the scammer’s email address to new heights. We have crafted a poster for his lost ‘pigeon’ in the hopes that someone will help out in the search for Percy. There’s a lot of pigeons in London but this one is quite distinctive as pigeons go as i’m sure you can tell. If you have any leads at all I’m sure he’d appreciate if you get in touch. It may brighten up his otherwise tedious day of sending countless emails trying to con strangers out of their hard earned money…

Printing for Crack (For Your Eyes)

id-iom does CFYE

First up, if you aren’t already regularly reading CFYE (Crack For Your Eyes) for your daily dose of inspirational art then you should visit, look around, bookmark it and then head back here. With the preliminaries out of the way we can now get on with the main event… This little beauty was done as a small token of our gratitude for Arden (one of CFYE’s founder’s) who helped us out by updating our website with a little front page makeover while we look to giving it a complete overhaul and upgrade. It’s on textured A3 paper and features a pimped out (and black) CFYE logo complete with the id-iom certified stamp to give it that authentic touch. I can only hope he likes it…

The mirror crack’d

In what i’m hoping will be my last post of the day we have this slightly odd commission. I’m not entirely sure how the mirror came to broken (i.e. I’m not the one with seven years bad luck!) but as soon as it was brought in for us to evaluate exactly I knew there was something just crying out to be put on there. We could not try and hide the crack as it would then look even worse than it did already so we thought the best thing to do was to highlight it’s imperfections.

The line ‘the mirror crack’d’ was floating around in my head and it turns out ‘The mirror crack’d from side to side‘ is the name of an Agatha Christie book starring the unflappable amateur sleuth Miss Marple but she originally got the line from a poem by Lord Tennyson called The Lady of Shallot and it seemed to fit perfectly:

“Out flew the web and floated wide

the mirror crack’d from side to side”

Once we’d found a suitable font, cut a couple of stencils and also got a couple of lightly glittered arrows on there to really put all the attention on the crack we realised that we had job done and to do any more would risk ruining it so we decided it was time to down tools. I’m particularly happy with the result as i managed to restrain myself before adding more and in hindsight it just fits perfectly. One more happy punter taken care of…

For reasons that are hopefully completely apparent it’s pretty tricky to photograph a mirror whilst: a) trying to make the mirror look relatively normal shaped b) trying not to get yourself or any other objects that just attract the eye in shot c) trying to highlight the big crack running across the mirror and the text either side of it. Now whilst i’m certainly not saying that Duffy, Donovan or Bailey couldn’t do better I think I did a pretty reasonable job considering my usual level of skill with a camera.
