Get the London look…

According to a December 2016 Telegraph article London is the cocaine capital of Europe – but only during the week. Apparently we come second to Antwerp when you add in weekend usage. It seems we like to lay off a bit on the week as we’ve been hitting it a bit hard during the week. Go figure.

Anyway that allows me to segue nicely into today’s piece featuring a young lady doing her bit to get us back to top place. It’s laser cut on wood then hand painted and features Revlon’s snappy marketing line that fits so nicely and a little snippet from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five’s ‘White Lines’. Once you’ve added a bit of crystal resin with some diamond dust glitter in then you’re good to go with another certified id-iom piece.

She’d look great once framed. Drop us a line if you’re interested.

Moiety

This picture really does have it all. A classy design, laser cutting, hand painting, crystal resin, silver leaf, variegated blue/green gold leaf, glitter, a word that it turns out most people don’t seem to know and a dymo printed definition of said word. Just to clear things up a bit. Apparently use of the word ‘moiety’ was much more prevalent in the 1800’s. My brain refuses to tell me where it came to my attention but it’s been rattling around in there so I just thought it deserved to be let loose so it can be used a bit more. So here it is in all it’s redesigned id-iom glory. You’ll be hearing it more if I can manage to shoehorn it into a write up…

I said I wouldn’t…

It’s probably just me but I think the phrase ‘I said I wouldn’t but I did it anyway’ has a kind of roguish charm to it. Pretty much a pirate amongst phrases. Why I saw fit to combine it with 80’s icon Pac-Man giving you a wink & a cheeky thumbs up and a weird black and white optical illusion style background is tricky to explain but I did it anyway. Designing and laser cutting the image on wood was the easy part. Hand painting the thing proved to be a bit trickier but I got there eventually. Now what to do with it? Perhaps  the street beckons…

Queen of Clubs

We offer today’s post with something of a heavy heart as it’s the first memorial piece we’ve done. It was created to mark the passing of a good friend who sadly leaves behind her a husband and two young kids. Our love goes out to them.

If you knew Ali then you knew that the most important thing to her was her family but also that she loved playing her role within the music industry. To that end we’ve created a kind of playing card design to signify her ‘Queen of Clubs’ status (obviously) featuring the Plug logo and references to her husband and kids. She was a fun loving mother, wife and daughter who was taken at far too young an age. I could try and say more but words seem to fail me.

The piece is lasercut on wood and then handpainted with the small extra heart and star elements stuck on for the final touch.

Much love

I’ll Be Honest (No Context Required – Vladimir Putin) mini me version

I’ve already done a larger hand painted version of this piece but I couldn’t resist doing a mini me version of our ‘No Context Required – Vladimir Putin’ piece featuring a quote from Russian President Putin following an interesting bit of video where he kisses the stomach of a little boy whilst out and about in Russia somewhere. If you haven’t seen it then I suggest you put ‘Putin kiss boy’s stomach’ into Google and follow one of the links. To say it’s a bit weird is probably something of an understatement.

Anyway this quote is what he had to say about the incident but once you combine it with the angry looking man bear you have another quality id-iom piece. It’s laser engraved on wood and stands proud at 13 x 9cm and even features an out of context Hello Kitty character and I’ve even robbed the Honest Burgers logo just to really mix it up. Drop us a line if you’re interested – it’s going cheap…

Good morning Mr Zip-Zip-Zip!

Good morning, Mister Zip-Zip-Zip,
You’re surely looking fine!
Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust,
If the Camels don’t get you,
The Fatimas must.

Here we have some pretty interesting lyrics taken from 1918 ragtime classic ‘Good Morning Mr Zip-Zip-Zip’ where ‘Camels’ and ‘Fatimas’ are apparently references to cigarette brands that were popular at the time. The tune was a favourite with US soldiers during the World War 1 era and was available as sheet music for piano, band, orchestra and male quartet as well as for talking machine or player piano.

Just why the muse demanded I juxtapose this with a rather racy looking young lady clutching a couple of water pistols you’ll have to work out for yourself. It’s laser engraved on wood then hand painted and stands proud at 39 x 26cm. Drop us a line if you’re interested…

I don’t really listen to music (Phil Collins – No Context Required)

Quelle surprise – Phil Collins doesn’t really  listen to music. I would imagine he ingests it in some entirely novel way that your average man on the street wouldn’t even be able to fully comprehend. Maybe he senses it using his musical intuition or perhaps he experiences it through bone conduction whilst floating in a pool of saltwater while small fish gently nibble his skin. Who knows? All I know for sure is that internet informed me of today’s out of context Phil quote. He apparently said it at some point and that’s more than good enough for me.

Anyway, I’ve juxtaposed his quote with a rather sultry looking supermodel. Once you’ve liberally sprinkled a couple of pilfered logos in and adorned it with a green & red background then you’re good to go with another successful ‘No context required’ piece. It’s laser engraved on wood then hand painted and stands proud at 39 x 26cm. Drop us a line if you’re interested…
