Living in a world where everybody hears but nobody’s listening – on tube

One of the contradictions of living in today’s frenetically paced, socially connected world is that there are so many effective means to make yourself heard and so many millions of potential people to hear it that it’s hard to believe your profound statements regarding your dinner or the customer service department of whatever business you’re dealing with won’t be the talk of the nation. But they won’t. Unless you’re a celebrity however, then the opposite holds true and any crumb of information, no matter how trivial, is devoured like manna from heaven and shared around other eager acolytes. But you’re never going to reach those heady heights.

Instead, you will be resolutely ignored. Which is why I thought the humble house cat was a good graphical representation of this. It can surely hear you (unless it’s deaf) but will pay scant attention unless there’s an offer of food on the table. Quite what i’m trying to say here is not entirely clear, even to me, but I’ll leave it all in your capable hands to decipher…

As an aside we really took this one next level as we didn’t even put it on the tube ourselves. This was deposited by one of our street team. You know you’ve made it when you don’t even have to do it yourself. Cheers Leander!

Even the NSA didn’t see this one coming. With the world in turmoil the cats have been talking and they’ve decided it’s time to make their move. Their dark motives are obscured behind a cute and fluffy visage – but don’t be fooled. They are taking over in their tiny nuclear powered tanks and they aren’t taking no for an answer. I for one welcome our new feline overlords…

Star Wars Episode 7: Vader’s Big Idea

Star Wars: Episode 6 – The Return of the Jedi saw Darth Vader die. Or did it? In fact, he lived on as a cloned version of himself and after retreating back to wherever it is Dark Lords of the Sith go to make their nefarious plans he’s back with a new approach to taking over the galaxy. In Episode 7 Vader’s back with a new shiny pimping costume and a decidedly different approach to galactic domination. Rather than an army of tough-guy clone troopers he’s decided to get himself an army made up of sexy stormtroopers (cloned from his own dead mother!) that he’s willing to hire out to whoever has the most intergalactic credits to pay. Expect to see cards similar to these in a phone box near you some time soon… It’s a single layer screen print on A3 paper and is signed on reverse. Here’s the Ebay link.

This piece was inspired by a larger version we painted live at a small show we had a while back . It’s clearly a cat in a tank but her dark motives are obscured behind a cute fluffy visage but don’t be fooled. Surely the fact that she’s in a tank means her intentions aren’t entirely honourable. This is entirely made using the magic of stencils and spraypaint and is a glorious A2 in size. I for one welcome our new feline overlords… Here’s the Ebay link.

There Will Be Milk!

Another day, another picture for sale in id-iom’s Yuletide Fundom Demolition Sale!

This piece was inspired by a larger version we painted live at a small show we had a while back – see here. It’s clearly a cat in a tank but his dark motives are obscured behind a cute fluffy visage but don’t be fooled. Surely the fact that he’s in a tank means his intentions aren’t entirely honourable. There will be milk!

Ceiling cat is watching you ruminate

While we were at Seven recently I spotted a little hatch in the ceiling of the room next to where we were working and just knew what had to go up there (if they’d allow us). Ceiling cats! After a brief negotiation with the cat loving owners we were in. As the cats would be pretty difficult to spot (as they are life-size and on the ceiling) our joke would be lost on most so we thought we’d add some gravity defying paw prints to bring make them easier to spot. I, for one, welcome our new cat overlords.

Just in case you aren’t allowed on the internet very often ceiling cat is an internet meme that was wildly popular a few years ago and consisted of a picture of a cat peering through a hole in the ceiling with the legend ‘ceiling cat is watching you masturbate’. This then spawned numerous images using the same image of the cat and different words in the format “Ceiling Cat is watching you [verb ending in/rhyming with -ate]”. Internet history lesson over.
