Apparently if you took all the gold in the world that has ever been mined and turned it into a cube it would have sides just over 20m long. Which isn’t really all that much when you think about it. Although it would be worth over $8.5 trillion. Which is rather a lot when you think about it. You’d certainly want to keep it somewhere safe.

Anyway, today’s piece has some precious gold leaf on it which makes it pretty fancy if you ask me. And it features a serene looking lady buddha who’s probably having some pretty profound thoughts about enlightenment and reincarnation. I, on the other hand, am saving my profound thoughts to see if I can decide what to have for lunch.

Bonus fact: the original write up for this piece had the words ‘shit weasel’ and ‘slovenly tadpole’ in it. Which makes it sound exciting but unfortunately they were the high points and the above is probably more appropriate….

The sun is shining and it finally feels like summer has officially arrived. Just in time for festival season! Now, if you haven’t been following so far then where exactly have you been? Anyway, a brief recap, we went down to Somerset to paint some boards for Pootopia who provide toilets at festivals.  They have hundreds of compostable toilets and are beautifying them with some artwork on boards which fit into the toilet doors. Which is where we came in. We set ourselves a somewhat ambitious target of completing 40 boards over the weekend. Despite working just about as hard as we could we only managed a final tally of 32 completed boards (with 7 left just as backgrounds and one MIA). Not too shabby if i say so myself. The hard part was trying to make it so they didn’t all look too similar.

Today I present to you our fifth set of boards and we’re on a downhill slope from here. Right, dogs to feed and curtains to iron. Au revoir for now…

Cross my heart

So with Valentine’s day on the way it’s time for us to shamelessly try to jump on board and peddle some of our high quality wares.

‘Cross my heart and hope to die’ is an idiom that one would use to emphasise that something is true. This lady on the other hand is a tricky little customer and I have a hard time believing anything that comes out of her mouth. Even if she has crossed her heart. Maybe, just maybe, this time she is on the level…

She’s a compact A4 in size and is from a small edition of 5. Each has been completed using the magic of screen printing, paint pens, spraypaint and stencils. The print is signed on the reverse side and all are hand finished.

The Midas Touch

The Midas Touch

Hands up who knows the story of the King Midas and his golden touch? Well, it’s the story of a greedy and foolish man whose wish to have everything he touched turn to gold became reality. He soon came to realise that this wasn’t quite as great as he thought as having food and drink turn to gold made life pretty difficult.

Now look at the subject of our picture. Here is a man who seems to have everything and but as the picture states ‘yet still he cried’. He had it all;  women, jewels, drugs, money, all the wealth of the world but unfortunately that means little to a man who can’t enjoy them. The folly of human greed is a tale he is surely learning the hard way as he cries himself to sleep worrying that his fortune will be taken from him and that he can trust no-one. As they saying goes – money can’t buy you love.

A Hero to Save

A hero to save

Even heroes need some assistance every once in a while and this guy is no different. I’ll admit he doesn’t look like much of a hero but then again who does unless you run around in skin-tight spandex and/or have a magical assortment of wonderful gadgets and gizmos. This fella is more of your everday hero and he saved a cat from a tree last Thursday and didn’t even tell anyone about it. That’s just how he rolls.

It just so happened I was walking past and saw the brave deed taking place in front of my very eyes. I asked if I could take his photo but he politely declined so I had to recreate him from memory and as you can probably guess it was his smile that stood out. No selfless act should go unpublished…

Forged by the Glitter of Gold

Ah, Friday again! Where have you been hiding all week? Fresh off the block today we have the rather large ‘Forged by the Glitter of Gold’ which comes in at an impressive 100 x 70cm. Frankly, being forged by the glitter of anything is pretty good in my book but to be forged by the glitter of gold is surely top shelf all the way.

The title comes from an early 20th Century rag time song which i happened to find in a box of stuff from my Grandma. It’s a shame I can’t play the piano as i’d love to have a little rattle on the old ebony and ivories of ‘Forged by the Glitter of Gold’ as with a title like that it has to be a bobby belter of a song. That said i don’t have a piano at home so i’d have to find one in a pub somewhere nearby and give all their customers something that they had never heard before. Maybe something like this. In fact this guy is probably a little to good for me.
