Hell IS other people

Here I have paraphrased Jean-Paul Satre because in his play Huis Clos, or No Exit, he doesn’t actually mean people are the absolute worst when one of the characters says “L’enfer, c’est les autres” but in this case that is exactly what I mean.

There I was going on my first excursion outside in about 5 days due to the fact that I have underlying conditions. The sun was out, the breeze whipping through my wispy geography teacher style hair (cheers lockdown!) when I noticed the first idiot coming for me.

It was a middle aged woman who for some unknown reason crossed the road and walked straight towards me. Not 2 metres in front or behind me but exactly to my location. Luckily for the lady, I didn’t have The Answerer with me, a hefty blackthorn staff blessed by the gods who just loves being used to beat the stupid out of people especially when they don’t adhere to scientific recommendations. Think Thor’s hammers Mjolnir or Stormbreaker but instead of the unworthy not being able to pick up the weapon, the unworthy get a knock upside their head in the hopes it might shake loose some intelligence….

It is A2 in size and made using pencil, watercolour, acrylic and spray paint

Cheers

Four King Hell

Due to incestuous breeding practices between many of the European royal houses over the last few centuries, poor Otto here has an unprecedented cross to bear which could have only come about due to these bizarre and ultimately unhealthy practises.

The problem arises due to the fact that poor Otto is now the king of four different European countries. Don’t ask me how this happened but I believe it has something to do with some arcane royal protocols that no one thought to have a look at and change.

If that wasn’t enough poor Otto was born with eyes that some in private circles have called bug-like and a head that is as flat as a tabletop. Now, this wouldn’t be too much of an issue apart from when it comes to making sure his crowns stay firmly in place…

It is painted on 60×60 cm canvas and made using the magic of inspiration, acrylic, pastel and spray paint.

Cheers

If there’s hell below…

‘If there’s hell below, we’re all gonna go’ sang Curtis Mayfield on his 70’s soul classic. If he’s right I guess I’ll see you down there at some point…

For our second street drop we were determined to find somewhere that would take a good shot and we lucked upon the red tags so just whacked it up right over the top, took a snap and let it get on with it’s new life.

The gates to the heaven are guarded, but by whom?

Whilst we were down at the Electric Social painting the back stairs the manager came in with a lectern he’d bought off Ebay which was painted up in the colours of the Jamaican flag. Now, whilst in Brixton this is quite fitting, it doesn’t really sit with the style of the bar so we were asked if we could come up with something more fitting and we jumped at the chance.

Taking the lectern back to the id-iom lab, we ended up staring at it for a considerable amount of time before coming up with the notion that as the lectern will be used on the door at weekends it was somewhat like the gates of heaven and the divine being behind it has the power to grant you entry or to get you to sling your hook. So we came up with the idea of having an angel on one side and a devil on the other.

If you ever find yourself on the wrong side of this lectern maybe a mention of our name might get you past – then again, it might not…
