With the end of lockdown now in sight, we can now start to start thinking about the future and that’s exactly what Margery here intended to do. Before she fell asleep all she could think of was holidays to far flung parts of the globe where she would be invited to urbane parties with exclusive guest lists where she was the guest of honour. She wasn’t yet sure why she was the guest of honour but that’s what she hoped to find out over the next night’s sleep.
Sadly that wasn’t the case. Instead of dreams of living the high life with the world’s elite, she had dreams that left her more exhausted than anything else. She found herself traipsing through clouds like the Care Bears but instead of frolicking in the sun she was chasing ducks but didn’t know why. It was all very confusing for her. On top of that, her teeth kept falling out and growing back every time the ducks would quack at her.
This seemed to go on for hours until at one point when she was within a couple of inches from grabbing a duck when her foot started to sink into the cloud she was walking on. Suddenly she fell through the cloud and was hurtling through the air towards the ever nearing earth. Just as she was about to hit the ground she woke up with a start, knocking the glass of water on her bedside table all over herself and her cat which proceeded to dash from the room clawing her leg viciously as it scarpered for safety. After looking at herself in the mirror and assessing the bags under her eyes and the damage done from the cat she wasn’t particularly looking forward to going back to sleep anytime soon…
Keen followers of id-iom will know that we like to put a little write up with our pieces. Today is no exception but it appears we’ve run into a small snag. Neither of us can seemingly come up with anything suitable for today’s decidedly lovely painting. She’s a wistful looking lady gazing off stage left. That much is for sure.
It’s usually quite obvious (to us at least) what the blurb will be. But not today. It’s veered from being related to the boredom of lockdown to living in a crashed space station to shouting at your own private parts. I wish I was making it up. Now, in the fruitless search for a write up, I’ve had to go all existential and write about my inability to come up with something to write about. Meta. Take from it all what you will…
If you’d like to give her a home drop us a line etc. It is A2 on high quality Bockingford paper and made using Acrylic, paint pen, watercolour pencil and spray paint.
Well, will you look at that. It’s only reveal day for my latest creation – a 3-in-1 mural of my cousin, Sandor. If you watch the video you can see that I’ve even dressed up for the occasion so you know it’s going to be pretty exciting. If you’re into that kind of thing.
Given that I was concerned that the different tapes at different angles could possibly be a bit visually jarring I’m pretty pleased with the end result. Let’s hope Sandor is too…
If you’ve wanted an id-iom piece but didn’t have the dollar then worry no further. We’re doing a little edition of A4 hot foil prints for £15 unframed (+ postage)
For today’s piece I’ve appropriated a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche. Nietzsche was a 19th century German philosopher who produced many scholarly articles. I think his ‘best weapon’ quote is bang on the money but it’s tricky to be sure how impressed he’d be with my creation or whether he’d take umbrage with my use of his quote. I guess we’ll never know…
With the frenetic pace of modern day life it seems that everyone is always in a rush to be getting along to some other place. Almost like whatever destination you’re currently at is just a stepping stone to some other, better place. Which is surely a folly. Sometimes it’s nice to just stop what you’re doing and appreciate the moment. Or, as Ferris Bueller put it ‘Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.’ So there.
Made using spraypaint, stencils, text messages from my phone and some water droplets shamelessly stolen from MyDogSighs (and then inexplicably turned upside down) then affixed to a wall with one way security screws. Good luck getting that off.
“Featuring some of Brixton’s more notable addresses – such as Billa’s 24hour booze, Happy Shopper and The Sultan – this is an exciting game that will bring long, tedious hours of ‘fun’ for all the family. Brought to you by id-iom and Parker Brothers”
For throwback Thursday we’re going for our 1m x 1m Brixton Monopoly commission from a few years back. I was pretty pleased with the final result – especially considering how long it managed to take. After a load of emails back and forth we came up with a finished design which incorporated elements from various international editions of Monopoly, some invented elements and a load of place names from around Brixton which had significance to the client. As they live near to us all the locations (including Billa’s 24hr booze and Pizza Man) are somewhat familiar to me too…
Despite the fact they are known to me many spaces on the board are undoubtedly unfamiliar to just about everyone else. If, however, you do happen to be know all the place names and are particularly eagle-eyed you may even notice that we even arranged the squares so that they are grouped together logically (i.e by location and/or function) and the board follows a circuit from locations at the bottom of Brixton up to the top of Brixton Hill.
It’s been a long while since we’ve delved into the murky world of celebrity quotes. Today we’ve got Coldplay front man Chris Martin with, what I think we can all agree, is a pretty odd quote.
It both shows his awareness of his popularity with a certain segment of the population whilst simultaneously showing disdain for the other part of the population that would like to shake him by the hand – assumably for bringing his music to the world rather than because they have a taser concealed in their palm. Gloves or helmet? What a modern dilemma. Who knows? If I were you Chris I’d go belt and braces and wear them both…
Stencilled lady. Mysterious sphere. Circle game tattoo. I’ve really outdone myself with this one and combined some of my favourite things into one image. If I got you with the circle game tattoo then you can just punch yourself in the arm and we’ll call it quits. If you know then it needs no explaining and if you don’t then that’s what the internet is for. Right, what’s next?
She’s on A2 and has been made using the magic of stencils, spraypaint and imagination. Drop us a line if you’d like to give her a new home. I think she’d like that…
Transformers. Robots in disguise. That’s what it’s all about. They come from a far away place in search of the mythical Energon. Or something like that. What’s noticeable though is how they’ve managed to up their game in the recent years. Rather than transforming into cars and the like their current favourite is taking the guise of pretty young Instagram influencers in the reasonable hopes of acquiring a sugar daddy who will provide them with all the Energon they can handle. Even the Autobots are in on it.
It’s working out pretty well for them so far. Look at all the pretty binary in her hair…
Made using the magic of spraypaint, stencils and imagination. She’s available to be rehomed. Drop us a line if interested. Love
Social media can definitely be a force for good but I think we’re all too aware it has a darker side too. Social media influencer Kylie here is so tied up in her impeccably curated Instagram profile and getting more likes for each and every picture that she posts that she decided to have a modified Facebook ‘love’ tattoo done in an attempt to hit the magical 500K followers where apparently those lucrative but elusive sponsorship deals start rolling in.
Sadly all she got was a notification from Instagram saying the post contravenes policy and her entire account had been suspended pending an investigation. It’s currently unclear if she lives happily ever after. Kylie is on A2 and is made using the magic of spraypaint, stencils and imagination. Drop us a line if interested in giving her a new home…
