Maybe tomorrow my friend

We are all in the middle of a global pandemic, Tier 3 has just been activated in London, Christmas is looming ever closer and the weather is simply shocking. Don’t let that bring you down though, instead, why not simply engage in some extreme procrastination and write today off and maybe even the rest of December. Perhaps January and February too just for good measure..

Owning one’s mistakes

There I was painting away and I thought I had it! Then I lost it. Then I managed to find it again before taking it too far and then suddenly I was looking at an absolute mess of a picture. Normally I would throw a big hissy fit and rip it up or scrawl over it like some scene out of soap when someone is going a little off the rails- but that wasn’t to be the case.

I made a post on social media about my situation and I got some words of encouragement which made me reassess the picture and carry on, although I thought it something of a loss leader at this point.

Anyway, I’m still not particularly happy with it but just because I painted something I didn’t like doesn’t mean its worthless. We all deserve a second chance. For one I’m learning and beginning to own my mistakes. I just hope the next one doesn’t make me pull what little hair remains…

The fate that awaits

We have previous with Martin here. Just the other day we told you about how he boarded a train to nowhere after complaining to Southwestern Rail when he missed the last train to Bristol (entirely his own fault). Perhaps you have been wondering whatever happened to that poor soul. Well, let me clear that up for you…

Martin was stuck on that train for what felt like an eternity to him but was, in fact, more like 3 days. Just long enough for people to start getting worried about him but not long enough for it to be an unsolved mystery. 

Martin’s memory of the whole thing was hazy at best and the little he could remember couldn’t be explained without him sounding like a madman. He didn’t want that, he had responsibilities, and so he kept schtum about the whole matter. He never again sent a moody message to Southwestern Rail though. Or anyone else for that matter. What’s the moral of this story? You’ll just have to work it out for yourself…

Staring at the moon

I once spent the night staring at the moon. It was mainly to ensure the sun would rise the next morning. Thankfully it did otherwise I doubt we’d all be here to know about it. It turned out that I’d witnessed a particularly large and red blood moon which had led to my concerns. I hadn’t previously known they were a thing. 

Why this guy is staring at the moon however is currently unknown. He’s been staring into space for the past three years solid and has refused to explain to anyone why he’s doing it. Some say he’s going for a sainthood, others that he’s in the process of losing a bet but is just too proud to concede defeat. Perhaps we’ll never know.

We don’t post too much of our digital work but sometimes there’s work that may or may not ever exist in another format so it’s nice to at least to let it see the light of day…

Fun in the sun…

So, there I was (pre-pandemic) just casually minding my own business in the queue at the art shop when BOOM! – an impulse purchase incident – and before I know it I’ve got a little Sunogrpahy ‘solar powered photography’ kit clutched firmly in my hand. Fast forward to about a week ago when I find the kit in a pile on my desk. It’s sunny outside. The game is afoot.

A quick search reveals a transparency with a printed design from another project and we’re good to go. After 15 minutes on each side I had a surprisingly clean image using just the power of the sun. How very wholesome. Now I’ve got my proof of concept I just need something suitable for the other four sheets and then to find out where I can I lay my hands on some larger A2 size sheets before the next bright and shiny idea comes along to steal all my attention…

The Sphere – id-iom & Background Bob

“I’m surprised that no one’s mentioned yet that the reductive quality of the purity of line seems very disturbing in light of the eloquence of this piece” said the The Instant Art Critique Phrase Generator when I asked it about this work. A truer word has never been spoken. Probably. No one really knows what the spheres are up to anyway so it’s as good a guess as any.

Phase 1 complete.

Would you adam and eve it? In between dodging rain showers I have actually managed to make some progress this week. That’s the first part of our patented 3-in-1 portrait done and dusted.

I did ask my cousin, whom the portrait is of, what colours he liked and didn’t like. He said he’d think about it and get back. He didn’t. I went off piste. This is the result. Now to apply some tape and redo the whole thing for stage 2…

Guess who?

It’s now time to embark on a new 3 in 1 piece on my favourite bit of garden wall and I needed a willing new subject. Can you guess who it is? Well, who better than my cousin! Full marks if you guessed correctly although if you’re not family you’ve been doing some pretty hardcore surveillance. Congratulations either way. 

If you didn’t recognise him you’re just going to have to trust me that it’s a pretty good likeness. The question is, how much further can I get done before the rain sets in? It’s sunny now but my weather app assures me not for much longer. Answers on a postcard…

All Cats Are B…

Scruffy here doesn’t like cats and he never has. The way the prowl round like they own the place with their evil eye assessing any prey small enough and silly enough to get in their way. Oh yeah, they like getting their belly rubbed and are cute when their owner is about but, man, the things he’s seen them do when they think no one is looking beggars belief. Recently he’s been seeing a lot of cat video’s on the internet and he’s had just about enough. 

No-one is saying graffiti is the answer. (It is though). He’s just a man on a mission to express himself. He’s just got finish this sentence first…

We Ride At Dawn…

It’s dawn on id-iom’s private Caribbean island. There’s a soft knock at the door and I’m gently reminded that I’ve got a call in 30 minutes. After a couple of lengths in the pool and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice I take the video call from the BBC documentary team chronicling the eventual but meteoric rise of id-iom to being the pre-eminent design/art team in the world. Today we’re being asked about the big idea that took us there – 3 in 1 designs… 

It’s not that far fetched. Is it? Anyway, despite how great I think they are it’s up to you, the viewer, to decide that for yourself. It’s 3 in 1 performance art on a canvas. And if that isn’t a good trick then I don’t know what is. This rather opinionated gentleman is on a 60 x 40cm canvas and would desperately love to go to a new home.
