After watching Style Wars a while back I decided I wanted in on some of that funky fresh wild style 80’s action so cut myself a ‘Take it from the champs, graffiti is for chumps’ stencil based on the New York subway’s anti-graffiti campaign that ran in the 1980’s with the same tagline (which features in the film). This cheeky little number has graced a few walls already but I just liked the way it fitted on this piece of street furniture with it’s tongue-in-cheek message. How long it will last though i’m not so sure…
After watching Style Wars for the first time recently I decided to cut myself a ‘Take it from the champs, graffiti is for chumps’ stencil based on the New York subway’s anti-graffiti campaign that ran in the 80’s with the same tagline. I couldn’t decide which font I preferred so thought it best to cut them both and give them a quick test spray to see if I could pick a winner that way. Alas I’m no closer to choosing which I like so will be using them both. I’m hoping to use this as a little sign off on some of our bigger pieces so you’ll hopefully be seeing a bit more of them soon…
We had already done a version of this for a client in New York who contacted us asking for another one as they’d had to give the last one away to pay for an emergency plumber! Apparently when the plumber came round he was smitten by the piece and kept looking at it and rather than ask for any money for sorting out the flooding issue he’d been called in for he asked if he could have the picture as payment. As the flooding was apparently quite severe (and he would have cost an absolute fortune) it was agreed to give him the framed version of this in payment for his services. A call was then put in to us as the piece was sorely missed and we were asked if we could come up with a replacement. A couple of weeks later and we now have the final product ready to ship out. If only all problems were so easily solved.
Anyway, who would have guessed that plumbers were interested in the love lives of hummingbirds?
