Hair today, gone tomorrow

The bird-like nest on top of Diane’s head is actually her hair after just 2 sips of white wine after work on a Thursday. She intends on doing the whole bottle. She knows she has work again tomorrow but she just doesn’t care. That’s working from home for you. She read online that she can now change her hairstyle digitally using the magical power of her computer. If she can only work out how it all works then her next Zoom call should prove a little more interesting and perhaps Phillip from Marketing might finally take some notice. If not she’s going to send him a virus from a made-up but believable email address and see how he likes that instead…

Queen Nefertiti

Queen Nefertiti

Queen Nefertiti

In keeping with our ‘anything goes’ style of making pictures today we’ve gone for something of a classical pencil study of the bust of the famous Egyptian queen, Nefertiti, complete with annotated poem about her and fancy gold coloured lettering to give you a clue if you weren’t sure as to her identity.

Like Elgin’s marbles controversy surrounds the famous bust of her that was found on the banks of the Nile in 1912. By 1913 it had been spirited away to Germany and has remained there ever since despite claims by successive Egyptian governments for its return. It’s currently on display in Berlin.

Mainly because of the discovery of the bust she has become an icon in popular culture along with Cleopatra as one of the two famous queens of Ancient Egypt that most people could name. For a lady with such fame that she is still known over 2,000 years later, I thought there would undoubtedly be songs sung in her honour. And I was right. Although my exhaustive search only took me as far as youtube I was probably expecting something a bit better known:

The sketchier side

There I was rooting around in all the art stuff that we have collected over the years when I come across a device that I just didn’t have a clue what it was or what it even could be. After a little interweb research I came to the conclusion that it was a ruling pen. Now i’m really not sure where we picked this up but i have to say i kind of like it as it does give a really good straight line.

Sadly that’s not what i used it for though, instead i just started writing my name and making a mess, that’s when my housemate came along and started doing exactly the same. Anyway there i was a few days later leafing through my sketch book when i see this page and thought i’d draw a little face amongst all the mess.
