Gone for a Burton

There’s little id-iom enjoys more than a roadtrip – especially when it’s to somewhere new – so when we got a call from Smirnoff about jazzing up the smoking area of Society Bar in Burton upon Trent we didn’t have to think too long before agreeing. After a lengthy approvals process we finally got the go ahead so packed up the id-iomobile and hit the road. It’s lucky we started straight away as it turns out that doing loads of stripes is easy when designing on a computer but surprisingly time consuming when doing it with paint. Especially when we had to work with very little access behind the scaffolding poles. Which we would have been able to remove if we brought an adjustable spanner rather than some allen keys. It wasn’t our fault though, for once, as we were told that we’d just need allen keys. Anyway, we just about managed to get it all done and you can see the fruits of our labour yourself if you’re ever in Burton.

Bonus: We passed through the suburb of Branston on our way out of town and we joked about Branston Pickle being from there. It turns out that it is actually the case. So now you know.

id-iom v Coyote Ugly: round 2

There’s nowt id-iom likes more than a road trip so when we got a call from Smirnoff about doing a few murals for the imminently opening Coyote Ugly in Cardiff we thought it sounded like fun. If you’re not familiar with Coyote Ugly (there’s also a film of the same name based on the original Coyote Ugly in New York) they’re a chain of bars featuring dancing bartenders who will leap onto the bar and throw some shapes at the drop of a hat. With the coyotes practising their dance moves in the cavernous main hall as a backdrop we set to work giving the place a touch of id-iom flavour.

Apart from a couple of errant light fittings in the middle of our paint spaces that we weren’t aware would be there it was reasonably smooth sailing. Thankfully though, after a little head scratching and a bit of jiggery pokery with the designs, we managed to make it seem like the lights being there was always part of the plan. A highlight of the trip was finding a couple of donkeys to take a selfie with whilst out for our lunch. We’re easily pleased.

Vodka Smile!

Last week we managed to snag another commissioned piece – this time for drinks giant Diageo. The piece was to be completed in 90 minutes  and we managed to get done just under time. It’s now to go into their box at Man United and then to be auctioned later in the season. There was to be some subtle branding so we used the Smirnoff colours and font. Vodka is my favourite spirit after all. All good!
