The dead pixel

Sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don’t. For Maggie here it’s definitely the latter. There she was watching Netflix late one night when she came across a dead pixel on her screen – or at least that’s what she thought it was. 

After some intense experimental use of ayahuasca, however, Maggie now believes some parts of her face are teleported to the void and vice versa. She never knows when it’s going to happen but it’s always inconvenient. Missing parts of films at the cinema or conversations with potential suitors. It’s all rather embarrassing really.   

I can attest to this because just as she was about to sit for her portrait for me some white shadowless void spots appeared on/in her face and stayed there until I’d finished. It really was very strange..

She’s on the finest a3 bockingford paper and has been lovingly handmade using the magic of acrylic and watercolour. If you’d like Maggie and the void for your wall just drop us a line.

From Russia with Love

It’s funny what you can find on Wikipedia when searching for something entirely unrelated and how that can lead directly to inspiration. Which is always tricky to find. 

Here we have a piece based on Valentina Tereshkova who was the first and youngest woman to have flown in space with a solo mission in 1963. She orbited the earth 48 times, spent almost three days in space, and remains the only woman to have been on a solo space mission. And at only 26 years old to boot. You really should check her out. An interesting lady.

Like other spacefarers, some of her words have been immortalised. Her call sign for the mission was ‘Seagull’. Valentina is known for saying:

‘It is I, Seagull! Everything is fine. I see the horizon; it’s a sky blue with a dark strip. How beautiful the Earth is … everything is going well.’

And that was enough to inspire me to create this. Whatever will I find next on the internet…

The average colour of the universe

In 2001, Karl Glazebrook and Ivan Baldry determined that the average colour of the unirvers was a greenish white. It came to light just a year later that they corrected their own flawed analysis and reported that their survey of the light from over 200,000 galaxies averaged to a slightly beigeish white.

It turns out that wasn’t even the focus of their studies but I guess sometimes you learn what life throws your way. Now, quite what that means for us I’m not quite sure. It’s actually been called ‘cosmic latte’ which sounds better than beige. Saying that I had to work with ‘sahara beige’ as that was the closest colour match I could find. So there you have it.

Evil Nazi Zombies from Outer Space – the sequel

The last time they tried it on we had to summon our Blitz spirit, roll up our sleeves and really get to work. The only thing that saved us then was a reanimated Winston Churchill who nobly sacrificed himself in a ball of atomic flame in a bid to stop the Nazi scourge once and for all. Somehow they live on. And now they’re back – and they won’t take ‘nein’ for an answer!

I’m going to get onto the Syfy channel right now and see if they want the rights. If they did Sharknado I think I’m in with a decent chance…
