Je l’aime a mourir

Je l'aime a mourir

Je l’aime a mourir

Being the social media savvy types we undoubtedly are we thought we’d jump on the Valentines bandwagon with a little contribution of our own – but being given to a more cynical and pernicious state of mind we’ve given it a slightly darker nuance and then hidden that nuance behind an almost impenetrable wall of langue Francaise – as the French would say. From there it’s up to you to work it out.

You give love a bad name…

So as it was Valentine’s Day on Sunday we thought we’d get this up after we’d finished painting the piece we got up yesterday. It’s not particularly hard to find as we were painting in Tooting but you will need a ladder to get it. You can’t really read the text on this but it features a heart with a bullet hole and the following line from one of Bon Jovi’s seminal 80’s hits:

‘Shot through the heart and you’re to blame, darling you give love a bad name…’

Pretty fitting for Valentine’s in my view…

BONUS FACT: Bon Jovi were the last band to play at the old Wembley stadium. So there.

Stay cool

Stay cool – now on ebay

So here’s second of the pieces that came to light when I was tidying up recently. I thought we’d already sold this stuff and now it’s time to remedy that so here it is on ebay.

With Valentine’s Day not so far away it seems quite fitting. It’s been a while since i’ve been in the situation this chap finds himself in. He’s done all he can; got himself dressed up nice, got some flowers and found himself the right door to knock on. From here on in it’s no longer in his hands and the best he can do is put his best smile on and pretend he’s all confidence (which, he’s been informed, the ladies love). I can only wish him the best of luck…

He’s from an edition of 5 and is an eminently frameable A4 in size. They are all hand finished with different colours and it’s been completed using the magic of screen printing, paint pens, spraypaint and stencils. Signed on reverse.

Girl O’Dreams

So with Valentine’s day on the way it’s time for us to shamelessly try to jump on board and peddle some of our high quality wares.

Here’s the ebay link

Cross my heart

So with Valentine’s day on the way it’s time for us to shamelessly try to jump on board and peddle some of our high quality wares.

Here’s the ebay link.

‘Cross my heart and hope to die’ is an idiom that one would use to emphasise that something is true. This lady on the other hand is a tricky little customer and I have a hard time believing anything that comes out of her mouth. Even if she has crossed her heart. Maybe, just maybe, this time she is on the level…

You had me at whagwan

Brixton – you had me at whagwan…

Since living in Brixton I’ve become enamoured with the phrase ‘Whagwan‘. For the uninitiated, the phrase means ‘what’s going on’ in Jamaican Patois. The spelling can vary but the meaning doesn’t change. Anyway, once I’d combined that with a nice little romantic statement and a bit of traditional Claddagh ring design, hey presto, I had a fully formed idea that, after a little further work, became this little declaration of love for Brixton. Happy Valentine’s Day Brixton!

Be still my beating heart

Be still my beating heart (close up)

Be still my beating heart

We did a version of this on paper last week (which has already been on eBay) but the street was always where I’d imagined this piece to live. And not only did we find a great spot for it but the location also gave us a great idea for extending this piece that we’ll follow up on as soon as we can. Anyway, i digress. Apparently the earliest citation for the term ‘be still my beating heart’ comes from William Mountfort‘s Zelmane from 1705:

“Ha! hold my Brain; be still my beating Heart.”

Now I quite like that quote and think it’s a nice romantic concept so I thought I’d give it a little id-iom twist just in time for Valentine’s Day. Apparently Sting did a song called ‘Be still my beating heart’ but I’ve neglected to link to it as I’ve taken a hit for the team and it’s really not that good. On the plus side though at least we got out on the streets despite the inclement weather.

Competition time!

id-iom stamp of approval (red)

id-iom stamp of approval (black)

With Valentine’s Day on the way we thought we’d have a little competition so even those who are unlucky in love could get lucky (with us!). So here at id-iom headquarters we thought we would give a little something away to two lucky winners for Valentines Day. For a chance to win one of a very limited number of id-iom t-shirts (we don’t have all sizes so you may have to gift it!) and a print to go with it all you have to do is ‘like’ our facebook id-iom page and then you will be added to the draw. Here’s the link to our Facebook page.

If you already like our page then you are already in. We’re just nice like that. Then on Valentines Day we will go the id-iom randomiser and randomly select the fortunate winners…

Cheers

Roses are red, cardboard is brown, I’m rubbish at poems, so please don’t frown

At least id-iom loves you!

Down in the basement of the id-iom lab one of our R&D monkeys pointed out that it was Valentine’s Day today and that we should maybe do a little something to show how much we love everyone. Considering our last offering for Valentine was a little downbeat we thought we’d have something a little more sentimental this year. After some feverish tinkering we came up with the highly original idea of using a cardboard rose with a little note from us to try and brighten up a few peoples day. I can’t imagine they’ll last very long as surely they make the perfect gift (‘ooh urban art’ how very on trend!) for someone too lazy/forgetful to get something nice for their significant other half. Get ’em while you can…

Happy Valentines Day… Relationship Mitosis is here!

Valentine’s Day… What a complete waste of time and money. I’m not really a big fan of Valentine’s Day. I thought it best to get that out of the way first although today’s offering probably makes that quite clear. Not that i’m against people expressing their love for one another (as long it’s consensual, of course!) in fact i’m all for that – but it’s just the fact that it’s so commercialised and now comes with such expectations. I think i’d probably prefer to buy someone flowers or go for dinner on just about any other day of the year. Surely the only fun to be had on Valentine’s Day was sending cards anonymously when you were at school?

There’s a large number of Valentine’s themed prints available to cash in on today’s ‘festivities’ but we thought we’d cater to those for whom Valentine’s Day is nothing to celebrate. So Relationship Mitosis is dedicated to all those who won’t be out for an over-priced dinner this evening.

All that said I’m not a complete buzzkill and hope that everyone has a lovely day!

Cheers

id-iom loves you
