The news has a lot to answer for. Usually I’ll wake up with a random song playing in my mind. Yesterday however I woke up from a dream where I was tour manager for Covid 19 and was setting up their world tour alongside Corona Virus. Being the imaginary hard metal bands that they are we needed some appropriate imagery so rather than do anything constructive with my day I did a quick internet search to check no such frippery already existed then set to work designing their poster.
Weirdly, it turns out that most world tour posters seem to have a dark background with white text but that was definitely the look Covid 19 would go for. Once I’d put the poster together I thought the Muse would be done with me but, no, it was time to move onto merch design. After slapping the various logos onto a t shirt template I was finally allowed to stop. And this is what we’re left with. Being an artist is weird.
It’s funny what you find when you dig around in the corners of the overcrowded shedio. This morning I found this slate whilst looking for something else entirely and I’m pretty sure hasn’t seen the light of day since it was created six or seven years ago.
I’ve got literally no idea what I was thinking when I came up with this bad bitch but I obviously thought better than posting it. Now, with a bit of time between creation and reflection, I can still only wonder what my intentions were. Perhaps she was meant to be the result of some warped government experiments. Sadly, it looks like we’ll never know now. Just make up your own reason for the picture and we’ll leave it at that…
The first piece is called ‘Walking Weird’. It’s A3 in size and consists of a hand drawn girl in the crab position dressed in a bikini with a watercolour background. Like you do. And it’s signed on the reverse. Here’s the Ebay link
Our second piece is titled simply ‘Horse!’ is an A3 screen print with hand finishing. It features two figures; one with a head of a horse the other a sexy woman in some kind of S&M gear. Need i say more?
Perhaps strangely the inspiration for this piece came from a toy horse that was bought at a market in Spain that had such magnificent packaging that he just had to be purchased. I can’t imagine the toy passed any safety inspections and was probably covered with lead based paint but i had no intention of sticking it in my mouth. He even had some text on the box which had been badly translated into English (I’m guessing from Chinese). The text reads:
‘Flips the tail, horse runs
Truly scamper action’
The toy and packaging were magnificent in their crappiness but it did supply us with hours (well, minutes) of entertainment whilst drunk one night and at least we managed to get some artwork out of it. All in all i’d say it was a pretty good toy. It’s just a shame we don’t have a picture of the toy or box for you to marvel at.
It’s A3 in size and is a screen print with unique hand finishing including acrylic and spraypaint. Signed on reverse. Here’s the Ebay link
I’m not sure crabs (or at least crab-style walking) is entirely the most suitable inspiration when creating a picture but that’s all i could think when i saw the original photograph of this lady in her ever-so-slightly odd posture. This was a quick piece done mainly because i liked the original image.
