The Citrus King

We like treating our customers to a little thank you when they buy something from us and just the other day we slipped Marty the Citrus King into one such parcel. Marty is a dolt of epic proportions but it just so happens that he is also very photogenic. Just look at that grid. Piercingly beady eyes, stunted cauliflower ears and a nose reminiscent of an inverted ski jump are just some of the distinguished facial features that Marty sports. Good luck to him!

Be still my beating (yellow) heart

Praise be for the internet and websites like Urban Dictionary because without them I’m pretty sure both of us here at id-iom would be left in the social doldrums. Nearly every day I’ll see something that I have no clue about and have to research the topic before it is confirmed that I still don’t have a clue what’s going on.

In today’s example we’re highlighting the apparent significance of the yellow heart – as opposed to it being red or whatever other colour. I think it works like this: if person A was secretly in love with person B but person B would only ever hand out yellow hearts to person A then that means that person A is considered to be a BFF by person B rather than someone to be considered romantically. Got it? Now that you’re officially ‘woke’ and ‘lit’ you can hopefully appreciate our homage to the humble yellow heart and Karen’s failure to achieve her aims…

Made using acrylic, spray paint, paint pen and charcoal and is 42cm x 42cm.

Underwater Love

What are you meant to do when you wake up with an earworm already running riot in your drowsy and somewhat discombobulated brain? In this instance the words ‘After the rain come sun, after the sun comes rain again’ were on a constant loop. It took me a good while to place the lyrics as coming from Smoke City’s eventual hit ‘Underwater Love’ (it was released in 1994 but rose to prominence when it was used in a Levi’s advert).

In an attempt to exorcise my earworm I thought perhaps turning it into an artwork would help. It did. Thankfully the earworm no longer lives with me. Perhaps I’ve passed the earworm to you. I can only hope…

Created using the magic of spraypaint, stencils and and imagination on classy A2 Bockingford paper. Get in touch if you’d like to give her a new home…

God Save the Queen (kid’s t)

We got a few of our ‘God save the Queen’ designs printed up on kid’s t-shirts with Shoreditch Shorties (I think there are a few left if you’re interested in a little gift for the little terror in your life) and since we don’t have a child of the correct dimensions we gifted it to the lovely Ida. And doesn’t she just look pleased at her new gift.

As an aside the design itself is meant to reflect that a dwindling global bee population can only be bad news for puny humans as the bees pollinate an awful lot of the crops and flowers that we depend on for food. Without them we are somewhat doomed so it’s probably best if we take a bit better care of our little insect cousins and make sure they can continue doing their job. And, as a big bonus, they also know how to make honey. Without that we’d be left with wasp gravy and you wouldn’t want that on your morning toast.

Celebrity Quote – Chris Martin

It’s been a long while since we’ve delved into the murky world of celebrity quotes. Today we’ve got Coldplay front man Chris Martin with, what I think we can all agree, is a pretty odd quote.

It  both shows his awareness of his popularity with a certain segment of the population whilst simultaneously showing disdain for the other part of the population that would like to shake him by the hand – assumably for bringing his music to the world rather than because they have a taser concealed in their palm. Gloves or helmet? What a modern dilemma. Who knows? If I were you Chris I’d go belt and braces and wear them both…

Captain Cadmium

Now i’m not really sure how you can be a captain of a pigment but then again I’m not entirely sure what’s going with the world nowadays, so I suppose I have to expect any and everything goes in this social media age.

In fact just looking through this guy’s social media feed it would seem he’s no captain at all but just someone who has a unhealthy fascination with cadmium in all forms. That said he seems to be more interested in the colours it can make instead of its use in mobile phone batteries.

He tried to get in to the game of mining cadmium but instead of trying the tried and tested techniques he decided that he would try and obtain as much as he could by smoking as much as he could. Now as we all know this is an incredibly dangerous idea but the captain is now the biggest and only dealer in cigarette obtained cadmium. I have to say i really don’t think this is a good business model at all but c’est la vie i suppose…

Emergency Graffiti Kit

A long time ago in a galaxy far away 23 talented reprobates were asked to use their creativeness to decorate some crates. Somehow we also made the list. The results are due to be auctioned for charity at the end of the month. You can click the link below to go to the Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/events/712261705805568/

After a little thought our crate became an Emergency Graffiti Kit. In any given emergency, once you’ve got food and shelter sorted, then your mind would naturally turn to throwing up some sick dubs all over the now very instagrammable derelict walls.

With the Emergency Graffiti Kit we’ve got you covered. It even comes equipped with some lights so you can find it in the dark and then see what you’re painting. It also has the very practical use of being able to write on roofs to signal to the emergency services. And you can store all your precious things in the crate itself. All in all very practical methinks…

Make them smile!/Sphere no.9

I’ve got my hands on some wooden panels and since they’ve got 2 paintable sides I thought that I may as well go ahead and do just that and get some more double sided pieces on the go. Behold the first creation.

Side one features a new demotivational piece – ‘Make them smile’ and some snazzy colour fades.

Side 2 features a mysterious sphere floating serenely above some yellow and red flower like devices. What is it doing? Your guess is as good as mine…

What more could you want? It’s on a 60 x 40cm wooden board and is made using the magic of spraypaint, stencils and imagination. Drop us a line if interested.

Just let it be – Demotivational poster no. 14

Do you enjoy sticking your snoot in other people’s business?

Have you a fondness for getting involved where there’s no need?

Are you unable to let things lie?

If you answered yes to any of or all of the above questions then ‘Just let it be’ is just the product for you! It’s ideal to give you that extra little nudge you need to justify to yourself whatever decision you’re about to make. It’s that simple! ‘FRANK! Just let it be!’ is a common enough refrain heard up and down the country on a Friday night. The Beatles even famously sang a song about it where the mantra of ‘Let it be’ is repeated many times. Sometimes it’s just not that easy though…

Here at id-iom HQ we’re concerned with the world’s well-being. To that end we’ve created a range of demotivational posters to avoid cognitive dissonance and are available to suit every situation. She’s on A2 paper and is made using the magic of spraypaint, stencils and imagination. If you’d like to give her a new home then get in touch.

Cheers
